Signing in keeps the rooms you create and join in one place. Answering a room never requires it.

Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

Compromise is a group-decision tool. To do its job, a room stores the questions asked, the options offered, the availability people paint on a schedule, the display name someone types when joining, and the answers each participant submits. We also collect basic technical data generated automatically by any web request — such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps — for security and abuse prevention.

Compromise does not require an account. Access to a room can be proven with a random token stored in an http-only cookie scoped to that room, not with an email or password.

If you choose to sign in — with Google, Yandex ID or VK ID, through the identity server we operate — we additionally store the account identifier that server gives us, your email address, and your display name. We never receive or store your password, and we do not store any access token, refresh token, or account identifier belonging to the provider itself.

If you invite someone by email to close a room on your behalf, we store the email address you entered so that person can accept or decline. We also store small, non-sensitive cookies that remember your language and time zone display preference; see our Cookie Policy for the full list.

2. How we use it

Answers are used only to compute the room's result — the option or meeting time the whole group can live with — and to display that result back to participants and the host. Technical logs are used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.

If you are signed in, your account details are used to show you the rooms you created, to recognise you as the owner of those rooms on any device, and to address the emails you asked us to send. Your IP address is also used to estimate your country, for one purpose only: choosing which sign-in buttons to show you.

3. Email we send

Every email we send follows from something you or someone in your room did: an answer arrived in a room you own and you turned that notification on; a room you took part in closed and you opted in to hear about it; someone invited you to close their room; or a recurring room of yours was paused because nobody used it. We send no marketing email of any kind.

Notification settings are yours alone. A host cannot switch on the closing email for a participant, and a participant cannot switch on the answer email for a host. Every one of them can be turned off again at any time.

4. Third parties

Signing in is brokered by an identity server we operate, which in turn talks to Google, Yandex ID or VK ID. The provider you pick learns that you signed in to Compromise and returns your email address and name to us. Their handling of that exchange is governed by their own privacy policy.

Emails are delivered by Resend, which receives the recipient address and the message we send. Country estimation uses a MaxMind GeoLite2 database stored on our own server, so your IP address is never sent to MaxMind or to anyone else for that lookup.

We use no advertising network, no analytics provider, and no third-party tracking service.

5. What we don't do

We do not sell personal data. We do not run advertising or third-party tracking, and we do not use your answers for any purpose beyond scoring the room you submitted them to.

6. Retention

Room data is retained for as long as the room exists so participants and the host can view its result; a closed room keeps the result frozen at the moment it closed. An invitation to close a room is kept until it is accepted, declined, or revoked.

If you have an account, we keep it until you ask us to delete it. If you'd like an account, a room, or its answers deleted sooner, contact us using the details below.

7. Your rights

You may ask us what data we hold about you or about a room you participated in, and request that it be corrected or deleted, by emailing us.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date above will change to reflect it.
